Crystal’s Journey to Creating Serenity Spa Cottage

Crystal’s passion for helping others began long before she entered the spa industry. As a teenager, she was inspired by her father, a nutritionist who dedicated much of his time to helping cancer patients throughout the 1990s. His compassion, knowledge, and commitment to serving others deeply shaped Crystal’s outlook on health and wellness. Following the tragic passing of her father in August 2025, Crystal found herself returning to work sooner than she had originally planned. Even through that difficult season, she remained profoundly grateful for everything he taught her. Beyond his knowledge of nutrition and wellness, he instilled in her the belief that life’s greatest gift is loving God with all her heart and generously sharing with others. Crystal continues to honor his legacy by striving to be a living example of those values in both her personal life and her work. She credits much of her desire to help people heal and feel their best to the lessons he taught her throughout her life.

Crystal’s professional wellness journey began with Reflexology certification in 1999. In 2008, she entered the spa industry, working as a spa assistant while continuing to build her skills and experience. She attended school in 2010 and became licensed in Illinois before later transferring her license to Indiana.

As her career grew, Crystal pursued her dream of owning a spa. She successfully built and operated a spa in Schererville with a team of five employees. During this time, she was actively involved in the local Chamber of Commerce and various networking organizations, where she learned valuable business skills and formed meaningful relationships with other entrepreneurs. Crystal remains deeply grateful to the mentors and business owners who shared their knowledge and helped guide her along the way.

In 2015, Crystal was honored to receive the prestigious Upcoming Woman of the Year Award, they recognizing her dedication, hard work, and contributions to the Northwest Indiana community.

Life, however, presented unexpected challenges. Crystal faced severe health struggles, including fibromyalgia and other chronic health conditions that forced her away from the career she loved. From 2022 through much of 2025, she was unable to work and focused on healing and rebuilding her health.

When she returned to the wellness industry in September 2025, she was grateful for opportunities to work within local spas, including a beautiful and prestigious spa environment. While she appreciated these experiences, she quickly realized that the demanding schedules were difficult as she continued her journey back to health.

It was during this season of rebuilding that the vision for Crystal’s Serenity Spa Cottage was born.

At first, Crystal wasn’t sure what the cottage would become. She worried it wasn’t fancy enough and questioned whether clients would embrace a smaller, more intimate setting. But she trusted her years of experience, her passion for helping others, and the quality of care she could provide. Over time, Serenity Spa Cottage evolved into a peaceful retreat where personalized attention, healing, and relaxation take center stage.

Today, Serenity Spa Cottage offers much more than traditional spa services. Crystal has carefully expanded her offerings to include red light therapy, infrared therapy, hot stone massage, therapeutic laser treatments for muscle and tendon recovery, lymphatic drainage therapy, body contouring treatments, and post-surgical care designed to support healing and scar tissue reduction.

One of her clients’ favorite treatments incorporates hot stones, which help relax muscles and allow for deeper, more effective massage work. Crystal has also seen encouraging results using red laser therapy to support recovery from issues such as rotator cuff injuries, muscle strains, and other soft tissue concerns. She has worked with clients recovering from surgeries, including tummy tucks and BBL procedures, using specialized techniques and equipment designed to support the body’s natural healing processes.

What makes Serenity Spa Cottage unique is Crystal’s belief that every client deserves individualized attention, unhurried care, and treatments tailored to their specific needs. The cottage provides a welcoming and peaceful atmosphere where guests can escape the demands of everyday life and focus on their wellness.

Today, Crystal’s Serenity Spa Cottage continues to grow and evolve, offering a unique wellness experience built on more than 25 years of hands-on experience, perseverance through adversity, and a genuine passion for helping others feel their best.
